                                                                           The Maldives is facing crossroads in media freedom.   The people’s majilis is now considering the media and broadcasting regulation bill, which is being presented as an essential step toward modernizing media oversight. Though it could end up being one of the most damaging blows to press freedom in our fledging democracy. Presented in august 2025 by MP Abdul Hannan Aboobakuru, the legislation suggests combining the Maldives broadcasting commission and the Maldives media council into one entity. As the last Assignment for our Advanced Certificate in Journalism course's Digital Journalism module, this video project was made. It was intended to put our abilities in video production and editing to the test while also providing us with the opportunity to work together as a team to realize a compelling narrative. Abdul Muhaimin, 81, and affectionately referred to as "Male Naibugey Muhaimin" are the subject of our report. Muhaimin is a true artist and craftsman who loves traditional art and handcrafted items. The "Ufehdhuntherikamuge Maurazu 2025" recently honored his extraordinary talent and dedication, and his work made a lasting impression. In this video, we dive into his inspiring story, explore the heart behind his craft, and highlight the beauty of preserving Maldivian heritage through art. This project was created as my final Audio assignment for the Advanced Certificate in Journalism course's digital journalism module. This was put together by me (Maryam Mohamed) and my group members: Ahmed Shafiu, Fathimath Liusha, and Akram Abdulla. The primary goal of this project was to see if we could use the techniques we had learned in class to create a cohesive, high-quality audio story.  Based on the well-known local folklore Foolhudhigu Handi,  "Aami and Faathey’s Adventures" is a lighthearted and action-packed short play set in the Maldives.   The media landscape is shaped by two fundamental types of news: Hard and Soft news. Each plays a distinct role in informing, engaging, and entertaining audiences, and understanding their differences is essential for both news consumers and aspiring journalists. Hard News Hard news refers to stories that cover serious, timely, and consequential events or issues. These stories often revolve around politics, international affairs, economics, public safety, science, crime, and disasters—topics that have a direct impact on society at large and are of immediate public interest. Hard news is reported with a focus on facts, neutrality, and balance, avoiding personal opinions or emotional language and typically follows the "inverted pyramid" format, presenting the most critical information first—answering the who, what, when, where, why, and how.
